Are You Struggling To Manage Anxiety?

  • Do you feel like there is constant activity in your brain?
  • Is it hard to enjoy the good things that happen because you're waiting for the bad?
  • Does the worst care scenario constantly pop into your head?
  • Do you struggle to sleep at night with the never ending list of things in your head?
  • Have you already tried ways to calm the anxiety, but haven't been able to?

Our society today is a breeding ground for anxiety. We are constantly working towards the next goal or being told we are not enough. With constant media coverage of horrible experiences of others, how can we not worry about the worst case scenario?

Anxiety makes it difficult to separate what is an appropriate pre-caution and what is excessive. The anxiety not only impacts our thinking and emotions with impaired concentration, racing thoughts, nervous expectation, but then moves into negatively impacting the body. When anxiety is present you can struggle with poor sleep, muscle tension, restlessness, racing heart, increased sweating, or even shortness of breath.

If you struggle to separate from what is your intuition and what is your anxiety, then I encourage you to take the next steps to beginning therapy.

Others Experience Anxiety Too?

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, Anxiety Disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults (19.1% of the population) age 18 and older every year [1]. Although many struggle with anxiety, it is common for you to not seek treatment. Anxiety is often used to benefit ourselves as well as others in our life. Maybe you are someone that is highly organized, prepared, and overly helping others. Anxiety can be a propelling factor in accomplishments at school or work. You might be fearful that if you remove your anxiety, you are also removing your ability to be successful.

Anxiety can make you feel like you have a false sense of control in moments where you feel out of control. This false sense of control can feel like it is keeping you safe; therefore, you may worry that if you remove your anxiety, you are removing your safety. This definitely can create a barrier in progressing towards your goals.

What about our kids and teens? According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, Anxiety disorders affect 31.9% of adolescents between 13 and 18 years old. Research shows that untreated teenagers with anxiety disorders are at higher risk to perform poorly in school, miss out on important social experiences, and engage in substance abuse. [2] Just like for us adults and the benefits we can experience from our anxiety, our children are similar. Often times our children with anxiety take less chances, preform well in school, and are committed to their extracurricular activities. As adults, anxiety can be overlooked in our children because it presents as a highly functioning child. Sometimes the opposite can occur, the anxiety can hinder our children in their engagement in social activities, they become overwhelmed by school work, and they are distressed when away from us.

The good news, however, is that with the help of our compassionate and experienced therapists you can begin to enjoy life again without being hindered by anxiety.

Anxiety Counseling Can Help You Take Your Life Back

If this sounds like you, we are confident we can help. Our practice offers the most effective forms of treatment, to get the relief from anxiety that you deserve.

When it comes to treating anxiety disorders, research shows that therapy is usually the most effective option. That’s because anxiety therapy - as opposed to anxiety medication - treats more than just symptoms of the problem.

Anxiety Counseling can help to uncover the underlying causes of your worries and fears, learn how to relax, look at situations in a new, less frightening way, and develop better coping mechanisms and problem-solving skills.

Our therapists specialize in evidenced based interventions proven to treat anxiety disorders. We are highly trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy. Both of these interventions support you in changing your thoughts to take control of your life again. In using CBT for anxiety counseling you will learn how your thoughts impact your behaviors. You will work with your therapist to be able to identify common thinking traps and ways to change them. You will learn these techniques to be able to apply them to many different issues that may arise.

During anxiety counseling, our therapists also support you in learning new healthy coping tools through mindfulness techniques. Some of these techniques to manage anxiety look like breathing techniques, grounding techniques, meditation, and body based practices including Progressive Muscle Relaxation. We make sure you have the tools to not just manage your thoughts, but to relax your body as well. Our goal is that you leave each session with a plan that you feel confident in, whether it be for next session or ways to support your anxiety between sessions.
